Google Chrome OS for VMware & VirtualBox

Chrome OS is a brand new free operating system built around the revolutionary Google Chrome browser.

The project aim is to provide a lightweight Linux distribution for the best web browsing experience.

Featured software in Chrome OS:
  • GNOME 2.24 desktop environment

  • Google Chrome 4.0.237 web browser

  • Google Picasa 2.7 photo manager

  • OpenOffice.org 3.0 office suite

  • GIMP 2.6 image editor

  • Flash Player 10.0 plugin

  • and much more!
System requirements of Chrome OS:
  • Processor: Intel Pentium, Xeon or newer; AMD Duron, Athlon, Sempron, Opteron or newer

  • RAM: min. 256 MB

  • Hard disk: min. 1 GB

  • Graphics card: supports most modern graphics cards.
How to install
  • To use the vmdk file, open VMware and create a new Linux-based virtual machine. One of the options will be to use an "existing virtual disk." (In VMware Fusion, this is the last option below, "use operating system disk" and "use OS disc image file.")

  • Delete the existing hard drive after creating the new virtual machine and replace it with the downloaded Virtual Hard Drive

  • Make sure your VM is set to use bridged networking, rather than NAT.

  • The username and password to login to Chrome OS/Chromium OS is your google account!

  • Alternatively, use VirtualBox instead. This is a free cross-platform (Windows/Mac/Linux) virtual machine created by Sun Microsystem.
Quick note:
  • Use the combined Ctrl+Alt+T to access the Terminal

  • To change/increase the resolution screen size, type this command in Terminal window (Depends on your screen resolution):
    Trích:
    xrandr -s 1280x720
  • To logout the Terminal window, type:
    Trích:
    exit
  • To shut down and power off the VMware, type:
    Trích:
    sudo /sbin/shutdown -P now
  • Type sudo password to shutdown if request:
    Trích:
    chromeos
